Billy is ‘happea’ for the farmers
St Donard’s parishioner Billy McAlpine has shared his joy at the life–transforming support that Christian Aid is giving to farmers in southern Malawi.
To coincide with Christian Aid Week this week, 81 year old Billy, who represents the charity in the parish, shared a photo with a pea pod acting as a smile and as a reminder of this year’s focus.
Christian Aid’s partners in Malawi are supporting farmers affected by the climate crisis, helping them to grow the drought–resistant and highly nutritious pigeon pea. Farmers are assisted in accessing markets for their crops and getting a fair price for their produce.
Last December Billy celebrated 50 years as a Christian Aid volunteer fundraiser and this weekend he is helping organise a sponsored walk for the charity.
Around 40 parishioners and friends will set off from St Donard’s car park at 10.00am on Saturday 20 May for a two–hour stroll along the Comber Greenway.
There will be a treasure hunt to keep the children occupied and everyone is invited to bring a packed lunch to enjoy at the parish centre afterwards.
Come along if you’re free!
