Youth Ministry Uncovered – Donaghadee
We hope you’ve been encouraged by our Youth Ministry Uncovered series giving some examples of the great work going on at parish level with young people in Down and Dromore. For our final instalment we meet David Timothy who has been the Youth Worker in Donaghadee Parish Church for just under a year.
What initiatives have you started since coming into the role?
During the weeks leading up to Easter we ran a Christianity Explored Youth, and two new young people joined us during this. I believe that there is a strong desire among young people today to explore what life is all about and their belief in God. We used the resource primarily as a discipleship tool and would recommend it!
What are you running on Sunday evenings and during week for young people?
Many of our teens are confirmed so we actively involve them in our communion services with readings, prayers, music, welcoming, and AV. We have begun a Bible class on Sunday morning and a Youth Fellowship on the Sunday evening. There is nothing fancy about these! We play some games, eat some food, and explore a Bible passage or topic together. We were delighted to start these programmes and they facilitate a good rhythm of learning about God and growing in faith.
How can we in the diocese pray for you and your work?
A key prayer point for the future would be this: identifying and developing leaders. This will help us to enhance our current gatherings and expand to run things during the week.
