GROW by becoming a praying church
“Wake up Church and start praying like you’ve never prayed before. Pray ‘Thy kingdom come’, and don’t give up!”
Thank you to Susan Heaney for speaking to us so powerfully on the centrality of prayer in the life of our churches. This was the fifth talk in our GROW teaching series and the first of four to be given in St Saviour's, Dollingstown.
Prayer sustained and guided Jesus; prayer preceded the coming of the Holy Spirit and prayer preceded the birth of the Church. “Prayer,” said Susan, “is the heartbeat of our relationship with Jesus and it’s the same for the local church.”
Susan shared the prayer journey of Redcross Church in County Wicklow where she and her husband Rory have ministered for 34 years. They spent the first 10 years learning perseverance and resilience as they prayed with no obvious fruit and then God began to move.
Susan shared many faith–building stories of answered prayer – of healings, of conversions and of God supplying needs – all of which built up the church. “The more you pray, the more you grow.”
She also encouraged us to ‘Pray and go’ – to take the Gospel message into the world, praying as we go and being obedient to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
Do join us again on Friday evening 17 May at 7.30pm in St Saviour’s, Dollingstown when Hilary McClay will speak on “Ministry that impacts a local community”.
GROW looks at eight values vital to seeing growth in our churches. Visit THIS PAGE for full details of the teaching series which runs until Sunday 19 May.
