Pentecost Sunday broadcast from Down Cathedral
Down Cathedral will host a Broadcast Service on BBC Radio Ulster for the Feast of Pentecost, 19 May 2024. This will be part of a series of BBC events in regional towns across the province to mark 100 years of the BBC’s presence in Northern Ireland.
The Revd Adrian Dorrian, Vicar of LAMP, will preach and lead a Service of the Word prepared especially to mark this significant feast day. The music will be led by Down Cathedral Choir under the direction of Michael McCracken, with Stephen Hamill at the Organ. Members of the LAMP churches will assist in leading the service.
Revd Adrian, who is a Minor Canon of Down Cathedral, says:
“The Feast of Pentecost is such an important day in the life of the Church. We are so excited to welcome the BBC to join us as we mark the significance of the arrival of the Holy Spirit among the people of God and pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our Church and across our communities.
“Down Cathedral has been working with the BBC to broadcast services for decades. It is a singular privilege for us to know that as we worship God in the very special surroundings of the Cathedral, we are also being welcomed into many homes across the province and beyond. I hope as many people as possible will join us for the live broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster at 10.03am or listen afterwards on BBC Sounds. Those who can travel are welcome to join us in person.”
Those planning to attend in person are asked to be seated by 9.45am. Because of the technical broadcast requirements, entry to the Cathedral after 9.45am may not be possible.
