D–Day Service in Down Cathedral
The 80th Anniversary of the D–Day Landings will be commemorated in Down Cathedral on Thursday 6 June. The Cathedral’s midweek Eucharist, which takes place at 10.00am, will include hymns, poetry and readings drawn from the experiences of D Day veterans. Revd Adrian Dorrian, a Minor Canon of the Cathedral and the Area Dean of Lecale, will give a short address.
He said of the service: “It is right and proper that we take time during our worship to remember the significance of the Normandy landings. The events of that day set the Second World War on a new course which would ultimately pave the way for peace. The landings took place against a backdrop of violence and sacrifice; therefore, we will take time to remember those who fell and to pray for peace in our world today. We hope people will consider joining us for this significant midweek service. At 6.30pm we will join Cathedrals around the UK by ringing the Cathedral Bell.”
The Service of Holy Communion and Commemoration of the D-Day Landings will take place in Down Cathedral on Thursday 6 June at 10.00am.
