Commissioned Bible Teacher/ Diocesan Reader Information Evening (online)
We're excited to announce this short information evening (via Zoom) on 25 September for those with a heart for sharing God’s Word who would like to explore training options.
Two of those highlighted will be the ongoing Diocesan Reader training and the new Diocesan Commissioned Bible Teacher training which Bishop David announced at Diocesan Synod.
Diocesan Readers complete an 18-month certificate course that equips and licenses them to lead church services and preach throughout the diocese. Find out more about becoming a Diocesan Reader at THIS LINK.
Diocesan Commissioned Bible Teachers will complete a 12-session non-accredited course that will equip them to teach and preach in small groups, bible studies and to deliver occasional supervised church sermons.
The evening will be online on Wednesday 25 September from 7.30pm.

Diocesan Commissioned Bible Teachers and Catechists
Those commissioned as Bible Teachers will be adults of all ages who have a passion for teaching the bible and instructing (or ‘catechising’) others in the Christian faith. This is a new initiative for 2024.
Commissioned Bible Teachers and Catechists will be trained on how to teach and preach God’s Word to others in contexts such as small groups, bible studies and occasional church sermons. They will also be trained in how to explain and instruct on the key doctrines of Anglicanism as derived from Holy Scripture.
Their role will be to act primarily as a teaching support to the parish and they are commissioned and authorised by the bishop only to exercise this role in their local parish, under the supervision of the minister.
Before applying for this role potential candidates must have the support of their minister and at least a 1-year course in biblical studies (eg. Diocesan Bible Course or Certificate in Christian Theology) or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience of biblical study. Successful applicants will undertake a 12-session course (beginning in November) followed by at least 2 assessed talks/sermons on a bible passage.
