Jesus Now: Reflections on John's vision of Jesus in Revelation 1
Jesus is the central figure in the Christian's life and the focus of the church's existence. Or is he?
In this book Stuart Bell describes the ways in which the individual Christian and the church at large remake Jesus as they would like him to be. By contrast, meet in these pages the Jesus of John's vision in the first chapter of Revelation. Read this book to walk with the author through John's compelling vision, and along the way meet searching questions about our response to Jesus - Jesus now.
The book of Revelation is a challenge to many preachers. Stuart with his usual insight and wisdom makes the vision of John, the beloved disciple, accessible to all. Stuart reveals the treasure of who Jesus is, in all His height, length, depth and breadth. In days where many want to ‘re-educate Jesus’, it is refreshing to find a book that draws from the only source necessary, the bible to teach us who Jesus, was, is and will be when he returns in glory.
Surely one of the most important things a minister of the gospel can do, is give us a true vision of Jesus. This is Stuart’s charism, gift to the church and now to us in his book ‘Jesus Now’, for it gives us a true revelation of Jesus. I commend this book to you knowing it will guide you in your discipleship and lead you to Christlikeness. Pray, read, and be transformed! Simon Holland - Director of the Garden Tomb, Jerusalem
This meditation is beautiful and refreshing. It challenges the Christian’s journey to go further. Stuart bases his truth affirming contemplation on John’s encounter with the Son of God on the Isle of Patmos. He focuses the reader’s attention on a picture of Jesus that all Christians need to absorb into their daily consciousness.
He shows that John, although one of the closest disciples to Jesus, still has more to learn and experience about his Lord and Master. What he sees and hears is thoughtfully presented by Stuart. I am sure his reflections will lift your spirit and strengthen your walk with Jesus. Paul Weaver - President of the Garden Tomb (Jerusalem) Association
Recovering His Reputation: The ministry of a late developer
What is really going on when a church grows? In a book which distils reflections on quarter of a century of ministry based in a growing church, Canon Stuart Bell answers that question. His answer takes the reader on a journey of exploration, into strategies and plans, but still more into the spiritual heart of Christian leadership. These unfolding reflections bring us face to face with the disciplines and struggles, the joys and the challenges of walking with Jesus daily, in order to serve a church which aimed to ‘Recover His Reputation’.
This remarkable book on leading a church draws upon Stuart Bell’s many decades of proclaiming Christ with power and influence. Overflowing with honesty, wisdom and insight, it should be compulsory reading for all who are called to be shepherds of God’s flock. Recommended without reservation! J. John – author and International Evangelist
I was expecting to enjoy Stuart Bell’s account of ministry in St Michael’s Aberystwyth - the church where I worshipped in my student years. But I did not expect an account so gripping and challenging in every chapter. A wonderful blend of honest personal narrative, biblical reflection, quiet meditation and detailed practical insights, it offers an invaluable resource for anyone at any stage in Christian ministry. The author’s transparency, his readiness to point to mistakes and failures as well as share God’s enormous blessings opens us all up to self-examination before God, and deepens our longing for integrity. My advice is to buy the book now. It could save a lot of grief later! Elaine Storkey - Philosopher, Sociologist, Theologian
Lives from a Black Tin Box: Martyrs of the Boxer Rebellion
With God tragedy can never be the final word. This is an enthralling true story of a young couple who in 1885 went to China to share the Christian Gospel. After years of hard work they were brutally murdered in the Boxer Rebellion in 1900. Over 100 years later the author, Prudence Bell, and her husband went in search of her great grandparent’s last address in Northern China. What happened was a miracle of God’s providence.
This book, co-authored by Prudence Bell and Ronald Clements, is a very moving read, hard to put down and a challenge to how far we would go in our service for the Lord.
A vividly told and deeply moving study of love, witness and martyrdom. Archbishop Rowan Williams
