SERVE 'Class of '24' graduates
We’ve had another very successful SERVE programme this year, with nine young people graduating at our recent celebration evening in St Philip’s & St James’, Holywood.
Big congratulations to Daniella and Israel from Glencraig, Helen from Donaghadee, Harrison and Isaac from Holywood and Bella, Sam and Chris plus Jay (who sadly couldn’t be there) from Ballyholme.
Bishop David joined us to present the certificates and pray with each of the young people and our worship was led by Simon Burrows and a young team from Holywood Parish.
All of our participants engaged incredibly well throughout the course, and thanks must go to our leaders and parents for their support and encouragement.
As our graduates testified, the programme has had a real impact on their understanding of leadership in the kingdom of God.
The course
Over the eight weeks we looked together at various aspects of biblical leadership through the lives of characters like Moses, Abraham, David and Jesus. Alongside this, we read a book called ’Need To Know’ by Gary Miller which helps young people explore how the gospel impacts every aspect of our lives, from our interactions with one another to how we live in response to what the Gospel has done for us. The last challenge was to prepare a short talk, and everyone did fantastically well.
We hope that having completed the SERVE programme our young people will begin to serve and lead in different ways – both locally in their own parish and also more widely at a diocesan level.
Please continue to pray for these young people as they transition into leadership and seek to live out their Christian lives where God has placed them.
Our next Youth Night gathering is on Friday 13 December at St Brendan’s, Sydenham. The evening starts at 7.00pm with food on arrival and everyone will get a selection box when they leave. We are really looking forward to getting together before Christmas!
