A new chapter for Magherally and Annaclone

Bishop David has instituted Revd Karen Salmon as incumbent of Magherally and Annaclone at a joyful and packed service on Sunday 19 January.

Following significant growth, the parish was raised to full parochial status and Karen was appointed Rector in November 2024.

In his welcome and introduction Bishop David noted the significance of the evening, both for Karen and the two churches.

“It was just under three years ago that Karen came among you as Bishop’s Curate and these churches were in a very different place that evening. And so, we rejoice in Karen’s leadership which has brought you to this point. We rejoice as well in your involvement, and particularly the work of Select Vestries and others who have really worked together for the sake of the kingdom and the advancement of Christ’s Church.

“And of course it’s a very significant evening, not least because God is present and we give him the glory as we acknowledge from the very outset that the church is God’s Church, and we are here as his servants. We’re here to work tirelessly to see lives transformed in the power of the Gospel and to see people born into God’s kingdom and become disciples in his Church.”

The Rector of Belvoir, Revd Emma Rutherford, gave the address, describing Karen as someone who simply loves Jesus and who has been called to build and rebuild in Magherally and Annaclone.

“However, no one person can do it all,” she said. “Christ’s call is to each of us to play our part in building Christ’s church.

“I want you to keep on moving forward – to move on and bring others with you. We give thanks for all that God has done here. We pray for more Lord.”

It was clear that the parishioners were absolutely delighted that Karen is staying and will lead them into the next chapter of their life and witness together. The feeling is mutual.

Karen said of her appointment: “I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to continue to lead the Parishes of Magherally and Annaclone. After only two years and ten months here, I feel that we are only getting started on the task God has given. This is to build faith, to build a united family and to build finances. And I’m convinced that with God’s help we will see His Kingdom rule and reign come in these specific areas.”
